How to Extend Your Tan with Self-Tanning Products
Many self-tanning products assure you get a longer lasting tan but of course we all know that some good things never last—maybe around 10 days or so if you’re lucky. But the best part is knowing how to prep yourself, so you’ll have a longer-lasting faux tan. For example, you have to shave or wax beforehand, or exfoliate before applying your favourite self-tanning product.
But there are ways to extend your tan, aside from getting the best self-tanning products available in the market, like the ones from Shellcove. Read on and learn.
1. When Showering
Wait at least 7 - 8 hours before hitting the showers (or before working out). When you shower too soon (or sweat during work out), your tan will fade much faster. When you shower, keep it warm, cool, or short, but not hot! Hot showers dry the skin and will impact the tan you’ve applied. Stay away from saunas, chlorine-filled pool, and salt water the week after you applied your self-tanner.
2. Don’t Scrub and Avoid Alkaline-Based Soaps
When rinsing, rinse with cool water. Avoid using alkaline-based soaps so as not to strip your faux tan. Sponges may be used to rinse your body but do it lightly.
3. Moisturise and Hydrate
It’s important to keep your skin moisturised and hydrated as these prolong the tan and keeps your skin from drying. Use lotion, dry oil, body wash with moisturisers to keep your skin moisturised. And drink lots of water as this will not only keep you hydrated but your skin as well. A well-hydrated skin helps in extending the tan, so that eight glasses of water a day should be enough.
4. Do Not Use Harsh Products
Skin care products come in different intensities, some are mild, and others are harsh on the skin. Using products that are harsh may strip your skin of your tan. Do not use maximum strength skin care products like facial masks, toners, waxing strips, alcohol-based products like astringents and anti-acne products.
5. Wear Loose Clothing
Tight clothes will definitely strip your tan away. Wearing looser clothes that won’t rub your skin will do the trick. Flowing dresses and skirts, jumpsuits that are loose are best. If you’re comfortable with not wearing a Self-Tanning Products bra or underwear, that will be great too as these tend to cling to the skin and can cause discolouration.
